Melvin Wieck

Melvin Wieck, 82, Litchville, N.D., passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 8, 2014, surrounded by family and under the care of Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo.

Melvin was born Dec. 3, 1931, near Marion, N.D., to Frieda (Paulson) and Ivan Wieck. He attended school through the eighth grade near Adrian, N.D. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and served for 13 months in Korea before being discharged at the rank of corporal in 1954. He married Lois Berg June 9, 1957, in Litchville.

He worked in construction for several years before he and Lois purchased the Berg family farm near Litchville in 1976. Melvin was a self-taught machinist, a singer and rodeo announcer, and a cowboy. He loved his horses, his cattle and blue heelers.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Holly Zoller, Bismarck; Laurie (Joel) Miedema, Marion; Kristi (Larry) Weber, Jamestown; and Angela Wieck, Fargo; six grandchildren, Audrey (Jeremy) Helm, Dustin Zoller, Mandi (Stephen Kutscher) Miedema, Jarod (Shelly) Miedema, Whitney Weber, and Logan Weber; and four great-grandchildren and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and son-in-law.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross.
