Milton Vaught, 85, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.
Milton was born May 4, 1919 in Steele, North Dakota the son of Elsworth P. and Emma (Arnold) Vaught. The family moved to Ypsilanti and he attended school in Ypsilanti and Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School.
He enlisted in the 141st Company Battalion in the National Guard and was discharged in 1941. Milton married Ruby Gilderhaus on October 2, 1945 in Sheyenne, ND. They moved to Ypsilanti where they owned and operated Vaught Hardware from 1945 to 1980. They moved to the Seattle, WA area where he worked in a hardware store until 1994. Then he ministered to shut-ins and was an active volunteer for the Kent, WA area food bank. Ruby died in December 2003. Milton returned to Jamestown in April 2004.
He was a member of the Sons of the Veterans of the Civil War, a lifetime member of the Elks, a member of the Ypsilanti Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines, WA, a charter member of the Jamestown Rural Fire Department, the Toastmasters and a Boy Scout leader.
Milton is survived by his two children, Emaline (Darrell) Roorda, Ypsilanti, ND and Gregory Vaught, Jamestown, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby, four brothers, Chester, Claude, Lyman and George and three sisters, Izora, Mildred and Blanche.
Memorial service: 10:30 AM, Monday, August 16, 2004 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor JoAnne Moeller officiating.
Prayer Service: 5:00 PM, Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Ypsilanti Cemetery, Ypsilanti, North Dakota.
