Myhra Geraldine (Gerry) Briese, 82, of Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully on March 14, 2015 surrounded by her family at Vibra Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Myhra Howes was born January 11, 1933 in Crystal Springs, ND to Elum and Alice (Lee) Howes. She attended school in Crystal Springs until 8th grade. She then attended high school in Tappen, ND and graduated in 1951. She married Thomas Briese on September 29, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tappen, ND. They made their first home north of Tappen on the John Hoffer farm where Thomas was employed. In 1952, their first son, Galen, was born. Thomas then purchased and moved his family to the Helmer Nelson farm 5 miles northeast of Tappen in 1957. Thomas and Myhra were blessed with two more children after making their home on the farm - son Torrey in 1959 and daughter Karla in 1962. Myhra attended Bismarck Junior College from 1987-88, earning an AAS degree as a Word Processing Specialist. She worked at St. Alexius Medical Center and Sears in Bismarck for several years and later went on to become a Certified Nurse's Assistant at Golden Manor in Steele. A few years after her husband's passing, Myhra moved to Jamestown and began working as a Mental Health Technician at the North Dakota State Hospital where she remained employed until her retirement in 2011.
Myhra dedicated her life to raising her children and helping her husband run the farm. She was involved in Ladies Aid and also volunteered for the Red Cross for many years. When her children were growing up, Myhra chaperoned many trips to cattle shows and fairs for the Tappen Ag 4-H Club; her children were members of the local FFA Chapter which she also supported for many years. In later years, she enjoyed her roles as a grandma and great-grandma and was proud of each and every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, visiting with family and friends, dancing, playing bingo and travelling. Those closest to Myhra will always remember her most for her tremendous strength, endless generosity and dedication to her family.
