Myrtle McKenzie, 80, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.
Myrtle Ronngren was born February 20, 1926 in Manns Township, North Dakota, the daughter of Carl and Minnie (Lee) Ronngren. She attended school at Mann's #2 near Montpelier, ND. Myrt moved to Minneapolis and worked at a military factory. She married Herbert Rode in 1943 and they had seven children. They later divorced. Myrt married Earl Madson in 1970. While in Jamestown, she managed the VFW until 1975, when they moved to Maddock, ND where she managed the MBC Bar & Lounge. Earl passed away in 1977 and Myrt continued to manage the lounge until 1980 when she moved to Jamestown. Myrt married Howard McKenzie in January of 1981. She managed the Town House Liqours in Jamestown until May of 1984. Howard died March 30, 1993.
Myrt was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown. She was active in various veteran organizations and served as President of VFW Auxiliary No. 760, District No. 7 VFW Auxiliary President and in 1978-79 was State FVW Auxiliary ""President of the Year"". She was also President of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 14, Commander of the Disabled American Veteran, Chapter No. 31 and President of the National Association of Retired Fedeal Employees (N.A.R. F.E.).
She enjoyed sewing, cooking and doing volunteer work.
Myrt is survived by two daughters, Judy (Art) Cofell, West Fargo, ND and Carol (Chuck) Rodin, Marion, ND; five sons, Duane (Deb) Rode, Montpelier, ND, Richard (Linda) Rode, Bend, OR, Arthur (LaDonna) Rode, Bismarck, ND, Ronald (Tracy) Rode, Dickey, ND and Gene (Sherry) Rode, Marion, ND; two step-children, Pat (Dennis) Germann, Fairbault, MN and Mike (Sue) McKenzie; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a grandchild and three brothers.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Friday, May 26, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Dennis Ellingsen officiating.
Visitation: 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 25, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
