Norma P. Spanjer

October 27, 1929 — January 25, 2003

Norma P. Spanjer, 73, of Jamestown, ND died unexpectedly Saturday, January 25, 2003 at the Jamestown Hospital. Norma was born October 27, 1929 at Roseland, MN, the daughter of Gerben and Nellie (Hoskstra) Tjepkema. She attended grade school in rural Kandyohi County, MN and high school in Willmar, MN. She graduated from St. Cloud State Teachers College with a certificate in elementary education. She taught first grade at Danube, MN for three years.

On June 7, 1952, she married Alan Spanjer at Sacred Heart, MN. They moved to St. Paul, MN where Alan attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. They moved to North Dakota in 1957, and lived in Bowman, Carrington, Wahpeton,Bordulac, and Jamestown, where she taught, tutored and subtitute taught. Norma loved to teach, helping many children to read and leasrn mathematics.

She is survived by her husband, Alan, of Jamestown, ND, two daughters, Kathy (Duane) Lillehaug, of Fargo, ND, Shellly Spanjer of Cadyville, NY, three sons, Larry (Denise) of Bismarck, ND, Mike (Marie) of Phillips, WI, Scott (Pam McGee) of Fargo, ND, three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, and one sister (Muriel Peterson).

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the MS Foundation or the Salvation Army.

Memorial Service; 1:30 PM, Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.
