Opal Whitney, 80, of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.
Opal Pottratz was born April 7, 1926 in Millerton, ND, the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Kaderman) Pottratz. She attended grade school in Edgeley and Jamestown, ND, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1945. Opal married Ralph McCarthy in 1946. They made their home on a farm north of Cleveland, ND. In 1974, she married Lester Whitney and they lived in Haviland, KS. In 1980, they moved to Greensburg, KS. Opal returned to North Dakota in 2004 and made her home in Jamestown.
Opal is survived by two daughters, Linda (Richard) Michaelis, Paynesville, MN and Judy West, Jamestown; one son, Dennis ""Duke"" McCarthy, Cleveland, ND; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one step-son, Vernon (Bobbie) Whitney, Eucha, OK; three step-daughters, Barbara (Richard) Green, Welsh, OK, Linda (Ray) McCollum, Springfield, MO, and Karen (Tom) Doty, Springdale, AR; 13 step grandchildren; 27 step great grandchildren; 1 step great great grandchild; and two sisters, Myrtle Henderson and Loretta Parfit, both of Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and two sisters.
Funeral Service: 2:00PM, Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown with Rev. Dennis Ellingsen officiating.
Visitation: Tuesday, January 2, 2007 from 11:00AM to 5:00PM at Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Haviland Cemetery, Haviland, Kansas.
