Otto Everett Barnick

Otto Everett Barnick, 66, Montpelier, North Dakota, died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Mr. Barnick was born February 7, 1942 in Jamestown, the son of Everett and Luella (Mueller) Barnick. He grew up on the farm and went to school in Millarton until the 8th grade, then finished his high school years in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1960. He farmed on the family farm until 1984, then he worked for Darrell Brown for seven years helping him farm. Otto started driving school bus for Montpelier School in September 1980 and continued until May 1988. From September 1988 to the spring of 1991, Otto drove the special needs bus route from Montpelier school to Jamestown. In January 1989, he started working part-time for R.M. Stoudt Ford and in the spring of 1991 he went to full-time, where he continued to work until 2007.

Otto married Linda Geigle on July 11, 1992 in Montpelier, ND, where they resided on the farm.

He was a 4-H leader for the Sydney Seniors 4-H Club for 20 years. He served on the Severn township board as the clerk/treasurer for many years; the Montpelier School Board for six years; the James Valley Multi-District Vocational Center Board Vice-President for three years; the Stutsman County School Board Assoc.; President of the Montpelier PTA; secretary of the Millarton Lutheran Church, until it closed; a Jamestown Choralaire for three years and a member of the Dakota Sunrise Singers; member of the Sertoma club; and he served on the Thrivent Financial Board. He was also a member of the Jud Lutheran Church and the Montpelier Lutheran Church, where he served as an officer and held various positions at the Montpelier Lutheran Church.

Otto enjoyed driving bus to basketball games for both boys and girls teams. He was awarded a plaque for 40 years of service for keeping scorebook for the Montpelier/Marion/Litchville teams. He also liked woodworking, collecting toy tractors, singing, and being with kids of all ages. Otto restored two tractors that his dad owned and he loved being in parades with them. Otto helped at Building Blocks doing many repairs for them for the last 20 years.

Otto is survived by his wife, Linda, Montpelier; three children, Penny (Jon) Bartholomay, Enderlin, ND, Laurie (Curtis) Brown, Montpelier, and Kevin (Kay) Barnick, Bottineau, ND; two stepsons, Chad Housh, Montpelier and Christopher Housh, Jamestown; ten grandchildren, Seth Schimming, Stacy Schimming, Allison Bartholomay, Carson Bartholomay, Troy Brown, Heather Brown, Heidi Barnick, Kari Barnick, Abbi Barnick and Calli Barnick; one sister, Marlene Ham, Edgeley, ND; and two nieces, Cindy Bernstein and Kathy Breden and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Terry Anderson officiating.

Visitation: 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial in the spring: Montpelier Cemetery, Montpelier, North Dakota
