Otto Oberlander

October 19, 1929 — February 2, 2008

Otto Oberlander, 78, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Monday, February 4, 2008 after a courageous battle with lung cancer at Innovis Health Care Clinic, Fargo, North Dakota, surrounded by his family.

Otto Oberlander was born on October 19, 1929, in Cokato township, Logan County, North Dakota, the son of Adam and Christina (Wanner) Oberlander. He was raised in the rural Logan County area, northeast of Napoleon, ND. He moved to Lenton township, southwest of Jamestown with his parents in 1943. Otto attended rural schools in both Logan and Stutsman Counties. He married Anna Ben on November 2, 1951 at the St. Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Church, Jamestown. They farmed southwest of Jamestown in Lenton township until retirement in 1994. Otto assisted his son and neighbor, Jerome McClean, in their farming operations until 2005.

Otto served as the Lenton township treasurer, then clerk-treasurer for over 40 years. He also served on the Klose Farmers Elevator board for 24 years, including 6 years as President. He also served on the Review board of the Boy Scout Troop 100 in Jamestown for several years. Otto was a member of the St. Paul's united Methodist Church and the Jamestown Eagles, Jamestown.

Otto is survived by his wife, Anna, Jamestown; one daughter, Sandy Monek, Williston, ND; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark (Patty) Oberlander, Valley City, ND; and the lights of Otto's life, his grandchildren, Saidee, Drew, and Maggie Oberlander. Otto is also survived by three brothers, Theo, Seattle, WA, Larry, Penn Valley, CA, and Ed (Dorothy), Moorhead, MN; three sisters, Emma (Roland) Bellon, Lansing, MI, Esther Pfeifle, Napoleon, Ned, and Helen (Mel) Burleson, Jamestown, ND; and 26 nieces and nephews.

Otto was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Bruce Monek; two brothers, Alvin and Walter; two sister, Mary Haid and Frieda Carstensen; father and mother-in-law, John and Anna Ben.

Funeral Service: 10:30AM, Friday, February 8, 2008 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Gary Ball-Killbourne officiating.

Visitation: 2:00PM - 8:00PM, Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
