Otto William Schulz, 77, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at his home in Jamestown.
Otto was born May 18, 1931 on a farm north of Elgin, ND, the son of Edwin and Julia (Keller) Schulz. After two years at Elgin and short stays at Arthur, Absaraka and Erie, ND, his parents moved to Bloom Township, northwest of Jamestown, in the fall of 1934. He attended primary school in Bloom Township and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1950. He was drafted into the US Army in 1952 for two years and served at Fort Bliss, TX and outside of Washington, D.C. On August 10, 1958 Otto married Mert Dietsch at Pingree, ND. He worked for the Farmers Union Oil Company in Jamestown from 1949 to 1999.
Otto had attended St. John 's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, since 1934, and served on the church council several times and taught Sunday school. He also served on the Board of Directors of First Community Credit Union.
Otto is survived by his wife, Mert, Jamestown; son, William Schulz, Rochester, MN; daughter, Sandra (Chuck) Leininger, Prinsburg, MN; seven grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Leininger, West Tisbury, MA, Jordon Leininger, St. Paul, MN, Krista (Jeremiah Slagter), Kaitlyn (Stephen Vogel), Shara, Joshua & Josiah Leininger, all of Prinsburg, MN; three sisters, Doris (Denis) Sheldon, Auburn, CA, Dolores McKenzie, Lawton, OK and Elnora (Terry) Allan, Williston, ND; sister-in-law, Gladys Schulz, Jamestown; paternal aunt and two uncles-in-law, Lorine Nohr, Fargo, ND, Albert Rivinius, Elgin, ND and Paul Peck, Moorhead, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, Albert and Walter Schulz; brother-in-law, Chesley McKenzie; eight paternal aunts/uncles: Elsie and Herbert (Martha) Schulz, Ella (Jake) Rivinius, William (Lydia) Schulz, Lenora (Clinton) Liebenow, Othelia Rivinius, Hulda Peck, and Albert Schulz; paternal uncle-in-law, Willis Nohr; and eleven maternal uncles/aunts: William & Rev. Walter (Bertha) and Esther Keller, Lydia (William) Krueger, Rev. Martin (Marie) and Rev. Otto (Hilda) and Rev. Meinhart (Irma) Keller, Alice (Sidney) Murch, Rev. Alvin (Margaret) and Rev. Amos (Helen) Keller and Grace (Robert) Sandberg.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, November 3, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Ruth Kaden officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota
