Peggy Schmidt, 98, of Medina, ND, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.
Magdalena (Peggy) Kapp was born on April 9, 1913 at Wishek, ND, the daughter of John and Eva (Hoff) Kapp. She grew up and attended school in Wishek and Ventura, ND. As a young woman, Peggy worked for a couple and did such chores as washing clothes on a washboard, baking, scrubbing wood floors, and keeping a fire in the wood stove. Peggy married Leo Schmidt on March 23, 1934 at the home of Rev. W.W.A. Keller in Jamestown. They lived on his parents' farm for a time. They began farming south of Medina, then northeast of Salt Lake, ND, and back to south of Medina. In 1963, they moved to Medina and Peggy helped her husband with carpentry work and painting in the community. Leo died on August 26, 1992.
Peggy was a member of the English Lutheran Church, Medina, where she was active in Ladies' Aid making quilts and the Stewardship Committee. She was also a member of the Medina Senior Center. Peggy enjoyed fishing, doing crafts and working with wood. She built doll furniture, small barns, and other wood toys and gave them to relatives.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Gloria Tormoehlen, Eugene, OR; son, Danny Schmidt, Jamestown; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Schmidt, Valley City, ND; three sisters-in-law, LaVerne Kapp, Jamestown, Esther Schmidt, Edina, MN, Anita Schmidt, Medina; special nieces Mary Schmidt and Sourey Schmidt, both of Medina and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Funeral Service 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at English Lutheran Church, Medina.
Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Burial : Medina Cemetery, Medina.
