Philip Eckroth, 78, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, December 14, 2007 at Meritcare Hospital, Fargo, ND with his family by his bedside.
Philip A. Eckroth was born July 17, 1929 in St. Anthony, ND, the son of Andrew and Anna (Hoffman) Eckroth. He attended school at Morton County Public School. As a young man he worked on his father's farm. He entered the army in February of 1951 and served in Korea and Japan until January 11, 1953. He transferred into the army inactive reserve on the 23rd of January and was discharged on August 24, 1956. In 1953, Philip married Irene Karn in Kensal, ND. They moved to Fargo, ND for two years where he worked for the Veterans Administration. They moved to a farm in Pingree, ND in 1957. They farmed and he also worked for 24 years at a frozen foods manufacturing plant as a maintenance supervisor. They moved to Jamestown, ND in 1982. He retired on March 31, 1992 from the H.J. Heinz Company.
Phil was a member of The Basilica Of St. James, the Knights of Columbus Council 1883, the American Legion, the VFW and the Eagles. He enjoyed sports, small engine repair and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, Jamestown, ND; 3 daughters: Sheila (Dallas) Neuberger, Beulah, ND; Terri Eckroth, Fargo, ND; Tamara (Darcy) Dockter, Medina, ND; 2 sons: Steve (Kathy) Eckroth, Jamestown, ND; Todd (Laura) Eckroth, Steele, ND; 16 grandchildren; 4 brothers and 5 sisters: Joe (Bertha) Eckroth, Meridian, ID; Paul Eckroth, Las Vegas, NV; Katie Helfrick, Sun City, CA; Dan (Irene) Eckroth, Mandan, ND; Jack (Louise) Eckroth, Mandan, ND; Frances Bender, Mandan, ND; Bertha Dieter, Bismarck, ND; Clem (Mark) Stein, Bismarck, ND and Lucille Bosch, Bismarck, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral - 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at The Basilica Of St. James, Jamestown, ND
Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at The Basilica Of St. James, Jamestown, ND
Visitation - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Interment - Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND
