Philip J. Hanse, 61, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.
Philip was born November 30, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the son of Joseph and Madeline (Wuerl) Hanse. He was educated in Pittsburgh and graduated from DuQuesne University with a degree in English Literature. He earned his PhD in English Literature from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Philip taught for a number of years in Pittsburgh, University of Missouri in Columbia and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Philip married Anthoula Malahia February 9, 1980 in Pittsburgh. They moved to Jamestown where he has taught at Jamestown College for almost 10 years.
Philip is survived by his wife, Anthoula and one daughter, Dina Hanse, both of Jamestown, two sisters, Marilyn (Tom) Sikora and Joann (Norm) Nadalin, both of Washington, PA, one brother, Daniel Hanse, Pittsburgh, a niece, Sarah and nephew, Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Service: 2:30, Monday, February 7, 2005 at Grace Episcopal Church, Jamestown.
No visitation is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Jamestown College, Jamestown, ND.
