Porter Eddy

Porter C. Eddy, 83, son of Robert and Nellie Eddy was born in Jamestown, ND on January 7, 1929, and died on August 24, 2012. Porter, a 4th generation resident of Jamestown, attended Jamestown Public Schools and graduated from Kemper Military School in 1947. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO, enlisted in the Air Force and later graduated from Jamestown College in 1953. He married Harriet J. Knott on August 8, 1952 and had 3 children. Porter continued the operation of Eddy Furniture from 1953 to 1983. He then sold insurance for another 20 years.

Porter loved spending time with family, hunting, golfing, fishing, cooking, playing tennis, and socializing at the YMCA. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Harriet, and three children: Kurt Eddy (Jamestown); Gail (Bob) Martin (Jamestown); June (Larry) Nygard (Fargo); five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Dr. Dayton) Burkholder (Rapid City, SD).

A celebration of his life will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 30th at the United Presbyterian Church in Jamestown with a luncheon immediately following. A burial will be held at a later date. Suggested memorials include United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown College or the YMCA.
