Rachel Moser

January 30, 1910 — July 5, 2003

Rachel Moser, 93, Medina, North Dakota died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND. Rachel Opp was born in Medina on January 30, 1910, the daughter of Frederick and Rosina (Haidle) Opp. She attended Medina school and graduated from the eighth grade in May 1924. She learned as much as possible about North Dakota heritage, including Germans from Russia and North American Indians.

Rachel was married and lived for a couple of years in Glendive, Montana. This marriage ended in divorce. She returned to Medina where on August 7, 1933, she married Peter Moser. They lived in Medina the rest of their lives where they raised their five children and were active in the community and their church. Peter died October 13, 1987.

Rachel was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying basketball and baseball - never missing a home game or most out-of-town games. She also will long be remembered for her cookie baking.

Rachel was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a charter member of the Women's Fellowship (joining at age 16). She was a member of the Medina Senior Citizen's Club, serving as president for several years, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Medina Homemakers Club.

Rachel is survived by two sons, Roger (Cherry) and Curtis (Dorthy), both of Medina and two daughters, Phyllis Hochhalter of Medina and Shirley (Roddney) Hanson of Las Vegas, Nevada , 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daugher, Darlene Slavick, a granddaugher, Denise Dale Moser, 6 brothers, Rudolph, Gustave, Adolph, Frederick, Reinhold and Albert; 2 sisters, Pauline and Lydia, a daughter-in-law, Darlene Moser and a son-in-law, Albert Hochhalter.
