Rachel Schock

Rachel Schock, 88, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown.

Rachel Metzger was born April 21, 1921 near Gackle, North Dakota, the youngest of Martin and Rosina (Zimmerman) Metzger's fourteen children. She received her elementary education in the local rural schools. As a young woman she moved to Jamestown, where she worked for 11 years at Trinity Hospital. On December 10, 1950 Rachel married William ""Bill"" Schock in Jamestown. They made their home 9 miles northeast of Lehr, ND, where they farmed. In September 1965 they moved to Jamestown. Rachel worked at the Ebertz Café until it closed, and then at Arnie's Truck Plaza until her retirement in 1990. Following the death of her husband on March 25, 2003, Rachel continued to make her home in Jamestown. She moved to Hi-Acres Manor in March 2009.

Rachel was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

She enjoyed playing bingo, Yahtzee, watching game shows, music boxes and her cat collection. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to show pictures of them to all her friends who came to visit her.

Rachel is survived by daugher, Kathy (Arlow) Bien, Bismarck, ND; son, Wallace ""Wally"" Schock, Jamestown; two granddaughters, Lisa (Steve) Fortner, Suffolk, VA and Amanda Bien, Mandan, ND; two great-grandsons, Christopher Fortner and Nicholas Fortner, both of Suffolk VA; two great-granddaughters, Tiffany Fortner, Suffolk, VA and McKenna Geiger, Mandan, ND; and one sister-in-law, Eva Widmer, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; six brothers; and seven sisters.

Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Friday, September 25, 2009 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Gary Ball-Kilbourne officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 24, 2009 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
