Ralph G. Hill

Ralph G. Hill, 89, Bismarck, North Dakota died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Benedictine Living Center of Garrison, North Dakota. Ralph was born on November 3, 1913 the son of Albert and Francis (Monilaws) Hill. He was raised and educated in Absaraka, ND. Ralph married Margit (Marge) Elliott on May 5, 1939 in Fargo, ND. Ralph graduated from Moler Barber College, Fargo and worked several years as a barber in Leonard. He joined Montgomery Ward in 1934, beginning in Sioux Falls, SD and advanced to stores in Brookings and Mitchell, SD before coming to Valley City in 1945. In 1967 Ralph was promoted to the Jamestown store, from which he retired in 1978. He then worked parttime for Straus Clothiers in Jamestown, where he resided until December of 2001 when he and Marge moved to Primrose Retirement Center in Bismarck.

Ralph was devoted to his two grandchildren, Heidi and Derek, and he and Marge spent much of their retirement following and suuporting them in their various childhood pursuits and high school activities.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marge, and his son and daughter-in-law, Byron and Mary Hill, all of Bismarck; by his granddaughter, Heidi Hill (Terry) Kelle of Lincoln, NE, his grandson, Derek (Melissa) Hill of Rapid City, SD; and his great-granddaughters Madison and Hannah Kelle and Ellengton Hill. Also surviving are his sister Evelyn (Joe) Sherman, Arthur, ND and his brother, Mel Hill, Valley City, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clayton, Bob and Wayne.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 13, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown and one hour before service at the church.

Burial: Leonard Cemetery, Leonard, North Dakota.

The family prefers that memorials be made to Benedictine Living Center of Garrison, ND.
