Ralph Miller

May 11, 1922 — January 13, 2010

Ralph Noel Miller, 87, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.

Ralph was born May 11, 1922 in Appleton, Minnesota, the son of Claude and Lottie (Homme) Miller. Ralph's dad worked for Ottertail Power Co. and when Ralph was a young child the family moved to Jamestown. Ralph used to tell stories on how the lineman would carry their hunting gear with them. Those families were lucky during the depression era that Claude was such a good shot. They were able to shoot the wild game to feed their families.

Ralph graduated from Jamestown High School in 1940. One of Ralph's proud high school times came when in 1939 the basketball team won the state title. He attended college in Wahpeton, ND for one year. Ralph joined the US Army on April 21, 1943 and saw the islands of the Pacific while serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged on March 23, 1946. Ralph married Mary Schauer in Jamestown.

Ralph worked for the US Postal Service, starting as a mailman. When he retired in 1977, he was Superintendent of Mails, and with his military time and post office service, he had 33 years with the government.

Ralph enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching sports on television. He belonged to the Jamestown Country Club and loved to play golf with his pals, Glenn, Dave, Edwin and Earl. He bowled in a league with these pals for many years. Ralph was always proud of his green lawn and the many hours it took to maintain it at his home by Klaus Park.

Ralph is survived by one son, Thomas Miller, Phoenix, AZ and one granddaughter, Lisa Marie Miller, Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one son, John, two brothers, James and Roger; and one sister, Grace Joyce.
