Ralph Edward Mrozek, 88, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.
Ralph was born June 14, 1916 at Courtenay, North Dakota, the son of Alex and Frances Gertrude (Sabinash) Mrozek. When he was 2 years old he moved to Jamestown with his parents and was educated in the Jamestown schools. He lived on a farm with his parents from 1932 to 1938. Upon leaving the farm he worked at odd jobs until going to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad on November 3, 1940. Ralph was drafted into the military service on February 21, 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He served in the US Air Force at MacDill Field, Florida, then took Infantry Training at Camp Gordon, Georgia. On April 3, 1945 he went overseas to the European Theater and became a tank driver for the 10th Armoured Division. He was discharged from the service as Corporal from Camp McCoy, Wisconsin on January 1, 1946.
Upon returning from the service, Ralph returned to his job for the railroad as a switchman and remained in their employment until his retirement on January 4, 1978.
Ralph married Amelia Viola Trautman on September 12, 1945 in Jamestown, while home on leave from the service. To this marriage was born one daughter, Janice Marie.
He was a lifetime member of the Eagles, V.F.W. and the United Transportation Union.
He is the last member of his family.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Amelia of Jamestown, his daughter, Janice (Donald) Lindblom, Fergus Falls, MN and three grandchildren, Peder, Guy and Kimberly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert Joseph Mrozek.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 27, 2004 at the Basilica of St. James with Father John McGinnis officiating.
Visitation: 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Prayer Vigil: 5:00 PM, Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with a rosary to follow.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
