Raymond Spravzoff

July 28, 1932 — February 23, 2016

Raymond (Ray) Morris Spravzoff, age 83, passed away on Tuesday February 23, 2016 in the presence of his loving wife of 62 years, Lillian.
Ray, son of Stephen and Marian (Dulski) Spravzoff was born in Moorhead, Minnesota on July 28, 1932. Ray's father died in an accident at a West Fargo packing plant when he was 2 years old. Marian married Alvin Buskiness and the family moved to a farm near Woodworth , North Dakota in 1936. The family later moved to Jamestown, North Dakota where Ray attended high school until he enlisted in the U.S. Army at 16 years old. After completing basic training, he advanced to special forces school and served in the Third Infantry Division, 11th Airborn. Ray was deployed to serve in the Cold War and Korea from 1949 until March 1951.
Ray returned from Korea and married Lillian (Fisher) in May 1953. He completed an associate business degree from Dakota Business School and received his high school diploma from Jamestown. After retiring from Tri-County Electric in Carrington, Ray and Lil moved to Pick City, North Dakota in order to spend more time on Lake Sakakawea. They spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Ray passionately loved the North Dakota outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting and fishing with family& friends. Ray was a master wood carver and shared his artistic skills teaching others during his winters in Arizona. Ray generously gave his time to community service including the DAV, VFW, Lutheran church and as a volunteer on the Carrington Ambulance.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lil; children Steve (Ann) Spravzoff (Flagstaff, Arizona) and Mark Spravzoff (Tamy Lee) (Watford City, North Dakota); Grandchildren Shane Spravzoff, Kristi (Stephen) Knecht and Amber (Guy) Fridley; 5 Great Grandchildren, a sister-in-law Jo-Ann Spravzoff and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Amy Spravzoff and brother Calvin (Kelly) Spravzoff.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 8 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 8 at ND Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, ND.
