Richard Becker

Richard William ""Dick"" Becker, 63, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, March 13, 2006 at his home in Jamestown.

Richard was born July 30, 1942 in Breckenridge, Minnesota, the son of Alvin N. and DeEtte (Devine) Becker. Richard and his family lived in the Breckenridge/Wahpeton area until they moved to Fergus Falls, where they lived from 1950 - 1955. In 1955 Richard moved to Jamestown. Richard graduated from Jamestown High School in 1961. From 1961-1965 he served as hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge he worked at the Anne Carlsen School from 1965 to 1969.

In 1967 Richard joined the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department. He became a fulltime paid firefighter for the city of Jamestown in 1969. In January 2001 he resigned from the Jamestown Fire Dept.

During his career with the Jamestown Fire Dept. he served as firefighter, First Captain and President. He served as the department training officer, Chief Fire Investigator and Public Fire Education Officer, where in this capacity he presented fire prevention programs to virtually every student in the schools from 1970 to 2000. He was a C.P.R. instructor for both the American Heart and American Red Cross and Red Cross 1st Instructor and board member.

On the state level Richard was President of the ND Fire Prevention Assoc.; President ND Chapter International Arson Investigation; Life member of the ND Firefighter Association (NDFFA); Certified Tester NDFFA; Adjunct Instructor of ND State Fire Marshal Office and a State Instructor Auto Extrication.

Richard was a a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jamestown; the Jamestown BPOE #995 and he served as the State Safety Officer to the Elks; member of Jamestown American Legion, Jamestown AmVets, Jamestown Eagles, Jamestown Shrine and Life Member of the Jamestown Fire Dept.

Richard is survived by his wife, Darla Rose (Solberg) Becker and his daughter, Kelsey Ann Becker, both of Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, first wife, Julie Ann Renier Becker, second wife, Monica Zimmerman Becker, aunts & uncles.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 16, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Pastor Dick Boyd officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
