Richard "Dick" Christ

Richard Wallace Christ, 83, passed away on August 23 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Richard was born on April 24, 1935 on the family farm in Uxbridge Township to Robert Sr. and Mabel (Simenson) Christ. Richard was the youngest of four siblings. He grew up and attended school at Uxbridge Consolidated School. He graduated from Leal High School in 1953.

After graduating, he farmed on the family farm until he enlisted in the Army on October 7, 1957. He actively served in the Army for two years before returning home to farm. He continued to serve four more years in the Reserves until his honorable discharge on May 31, 1963. He was proud to be a Veteran.

He met Arvalene Brockemeier of West Point, Nebraska while stationed in Colorado Springs, CO. They were married on April 12, 1959. To this union five children were born, Wayne, Lori, Scott, Dina and Brent. They made their life farming and ranching by Wimbledon until Richard retired from active farming in 1986. They continued to live on the family farm so that Richard could help his son Scott farm. Arvalene passed away on October 4, 2000.

He met Marlys Knutson and they were married on April 27, 2002. They resided in Valley City and spent their winters in Texas. Their time was spent attending activities of their blended families. Family was important and grandchildren were the highlight.

His favorite hobbies were collecting farm related caps and restoring old tractors. He also enjoyed hunting.

He was a member of the Valley City Eagles Club for over 40 years having served in the various offices. He was a member of the Wimbledon Masonic Lodge #71 since April 23, 1966, having served in all offices. He was proud to be a life member of the Shrine joining in June, 1976 and then joined the Sheyenne Valley Flag Corps. He was proud of having multiple sons in those organizations. He was also a member of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; children Wayne (Renee) Christ, Lori Houge; daughter-in-law, Jacki Christ, Dina (Matt) Dunlop, Brent (Robin) Christ; step-children, Marcia (Travis Gille) Pritchert, Brad (Rosalie) Knutson, Greg (Terri) Knutson; 13 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Elaine (Herman) Schmuhl; sister, Virginia Peterson; sister-in-law, Melvina Christ; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Arvalene; his son, Scott; brother, Robert Christ Jr, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Peterson.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, August 27 from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Epworth Methodist Church in Valley City. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m., Epworth Methodist Church, Valley City. Final resting place in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
