Richard D. Halvorson, 80, Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.
Richard was born August 23, 1932 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Helmer and Audrey Halvorson. He grew up and received his education in Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Rohde, on February 26, 1952 in Devils Lake. They settled near Devils Lake where they farmed. In 1960 they moved to Jamestown. He was employed by Otter Tail Power Co, Bagan's Real Estate and later started his own real estate company, Halvorson Real Estate, which he owned and operated for several years. He later worked as a salesman for Don Wilhelm, Inc. and Cen-Dak Leasing.
Richard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved sports and especially enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Twins. His love and devotion for his family will be missed.
Richard is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of 60 years, Jamestown; three daughters, Shari (Ray) Carr, Lynn (Tom) Wilhelm and Shannon (Casey) Henderson, all of Jamestown; two sons, Kelly Halvorson, Grand Forks, ND and Scott Halvorson, New York City, NY; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marian Kurtz, Jamestown, Vivian Peterson, Bremerton, WA, Lois Labisonniere and Sandra Bartle, both of Mesa, AZ and one brother, Roger Halvorson, Bremerton, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David.
