Richard Alan Johnson

December 24, 1958 — July 16, 2013

Richard A. Johnson, 54, of Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home.

Richard A. Johnson was born on December 24, 1958, in Great Falls, MT, the son of Ronald L. and Jacqualene (Goudie) Johnson. He grew up in Minot and attended elementary and junior high school there. The family moved to Bismarck and Richard graduated from Bismarck High School in 1977. After graduation, he lived in Fargo until 1980 when he moved to Jamestown where his home has been since. Richard was proud of his volunteer work at Great Plains Guide Dog Assistance Foundation in Jud, ND, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, with RSVP, and with the American Red Cross. He has had a passion for the sports activities sponsored by the North Dakota Special Olympics, representing North Dakota three times in the International Special Olympics where he won gold medals in bowling, bronze and silver medals in other sports. He was an avid fan of several favorite sports teams and enjoyed tormenting his UND graduate relatives by wearing his NDSU Bison sweatshirt. He enjoyed doing yard work and shoveling snow for neighbors and himself. Richard had a passion for fishing, listening to music and singing, bowling, swimming, playing basketball, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He also had standing dates for pinochle at the Senior Center every week.

Richard was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown Choralaires and B.E.

Richard is survived by his parents, Jaci and Harley Trefz, Jamestown; sister, Laura (John) Wetsch, Raleigh, NC; sister, Susan (Kevin) Trautman, Riverdale, ND; step-sister, Stephanie (Lester) Schlosser, Jamestown; nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; cousins; aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; infant brother, Randal Craig Johnson; and presumably his father, Ronald L. Johnson (who has been missing since October 2011).
