Richard R. Stahlecker

Richard "Dick" R. Stahlecker, 82, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Richard was born March 21, 1930, on the family farm three miles east of Merricourt, ND, the son of Fred F. and Lydia (Aldinger) Stahlecker. Richard was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church, Merricourt and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monango, ND. He attended rural school in Potsdam township. In 1948 he enlisted in the US Navy. Upon his discharge Richard joined his brother, Fred, on the home farm in Merricourt. In 1951 he married Rosine M. Hertel and moved to Jamestown. Richard and Rosine were married over 60 years.

As a young man he loved playing baseball and in his later years he enjoyed watching baseball on TV. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, Darrell and Dale. He loved visiting with family and friends and always enjoyed a good joke. One of his favorite past times was playing cards.

Richard worked in the creamery business for over 40 years, including Bridgeman Russell, Foremost, Fairmont, Country Boy and Cass Clay. Upon his retirement, Richard and Rosine enjoyed traveling to Lake Havasu, AZ in the winter months and summers camping at Spiritwood Lake.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rosine, Jamestown; two sons, Darrell (Sandi) Stahlecker, Apple Valley, MN and Dale (Julie) Stahlecker, Jamestown; one daughter, Debra (Chris) Stahlecker-Walsh, Everett, WA; three grandsons, Travis (Renae) Stahlecker, Jamestown, Derek Stahlecker, Steamboat Springs, CO and Jared Stahlecker, Queens, NY; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Stahlecker and one step great-grandson, Nathan Dally, both of Jamestown; two brothers, Norman (Rose) Stahlecker, Oakes, ND and Harlan (Peggy) Stahlecker, Crookston, MN; two sisters, June Suedmeier, Aberdeen, SD and Sharon (Tom) Vie, Oakes, ND and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Johnny, Milton, Calvin, Wilbert and Fred; and two sisters, Edna Meyer and Emma Steinwand.
