Richard A. Steinwand

Richard Arnold Steinwand, 87, of Edgeley, ND, passed away Friday evening, November 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born October 9, 1928, in Merricourt, ND, the son of David and Elizabeth (Wiederrich) Steinwand. He grew up and attended school in Merricourt, playing baseball on the local team. Richard worked for farmers in the Merricourt area in his teens. He married Shirley Ann Kruse in Kulm, ND on November 18, 1951. They made their home near Edgeley where they farmed until 1964. The family moved to Ontario, CA where Richard was a brick layer for 35 years. He was a member of the local Elk's lodge and the Inland Valley Rod & Gun club. Shirley died in 2004 and Richard moved back to Edgeley in May 2005. He married Betty Freih of Bowman, ND on October 5, 2006 and they made their home in Edgeley.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and playing pinochle with his friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Betty Steinwand, Edgeley; son, Richard (special friend, Twyla Ernst) Steinwand, Jr., Edgeley; daughter, Sheila (Jim) Brenton, Alta Loma, CA; son, Steven (Cathy) Steinwand, Apple Valley, CA; five grandchildren, Stacie Fulk, Beau Brenton, Christopher Brenton, Seth Steinwand, Jake Steinwand; ten great-grandchildren, Tylor & MacKenzie Fulk, Reed, Brea, and Lane Richard Brenton, Haiden, Dawson, Lane, Kamdin Steinwand and Michael Steinwand, Jr; and two step children, Terry Freih and LeeAnn Freih.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; two grandsons, Mike Steinwand and Ian Steinwand; three brothers, August, Edwin, and Ervin; and one sister, Esther.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Edgeley, ND with Rev Alan Eppen officiating.
