Rita Nelson

Rita Nelson passed away September 14, 2024 at SMP Ave Maria, Jamestown ND. She was 97 years old.

Rita was born to Albert and Pauline (Stampka) Siebert at home in rural Courtenay on April 16, 1927. She was the oldest sister to Delores (Lory) and Lorraine (Toody). Rita attended and graduated from Courtenay High School.

Rita and George Nelson Jr., were married on August 26, 1946. They were blessed with two children, Georgia (Snookie) in 1948 and Albert (Buck) in 1949.

Together Rita and Junior lived in Courtenay and Jamestown all their lives. They made lasting friends at work and in the community.  At home they kept a meticulous yard and garden and Rita grew beautiful flowers. She loved music and sang in the church choir.

Sadly, Junior passed away in 2010, Snookie Strand in 2016 and Buck in 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents Albert and Pauline and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Lory and Leonard Wanzek and Toody and Gary Reeves.

Although she was the last of her immediate family, she is lovingly remembered by Lory’s five sons, Chuck (Amy), Bernie (Shelly), Bill (Lori), John (Laurie) and Fred (Kelley); Toody’s three daughters, Sherry (Jim), Jody (Darrell), Julie (Marc); many great nieces and nephews as well as son-in-law Wayne Strand.

Graveside service will take place Monday, September 23rd at 3:00pm, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Courtenay, ND.
