Robert Andrus, 86, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, May 6, 2011 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.
Robert was born April 26, 1925 in Steele, ND, the son of Tony and Rowine M. (Baily) Andrus. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1943. He joined the US Navy on July 4, 1943 and served as radioman first class on the LST 1008. Upon his honorable discharge on June 7, 1946, Robert returned to Jamestown and attended Jamestown College for a year. He married Carol (Beverly) Brown on August 3, 1947 in Grand Forks, ND and then attended the Northwest School of Photography in Portland, Oregon. He returned to North Dakota and lived in Valley City, Minot and Jamestown. In Jamestown, Robert worked at the Jamestown Reminder, Northwest Printing and the Jamestown Sun.
Robert was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown; a charter member and past president of the Jamestown Sertoma; and was an active member of Beginning Experience. His hobbies included fishing, making fishing tackle, photography, and he and Beverly especially enjoyed attending and watching their grandchildren's activities.
Robert is survived by one daughter, Carol (Gary) Nelson, Whitefish, MT; two sons, John (Arlene) Andrus, Litchville, ND and Kevin Andrus, Jamestown; 8 grandchildren: Sarah, Rachel and Jeremy Nelson, Joe and Evie Andrus, Kyle and Alissa Andrus and Jill Heck; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; parents; and one sister, Betty Wojick; and an infant son.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Kenrad Pederson officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota
