Robert "Bob" Cook

July 13, 1927 — December 26, 2017

On December 26, 2017 as he rested peacefully in his own home, surrounded by his family, Robert Cook went to be with his Creator and Redeemer.
He was born on July 13, 1927 to Vestal and Ruth Cook. He grew up working on and loving the farm. He attended country school in the early years and graduated from Woodworth High School. During those years he played basketball & his love for it never left him. In 1944 he was one of six players on the team that won the Stutsman County Basketball Tournament.
After high school he entered the U.S. Army, serving with the occupying forces in Japan from the fall of 1945 to the fall of 1946. He returned home and was called again to serve his country in the Korean Conflict 1950-51. He was a member of the 38th Field Artillery Battalion.
In 1952 Bob and Geraldine Marston were united in marriage. They had four children they raised in the little town of Woodworth. During those years Bob refereed basketball games in the area and played on the Legion baseball team. Later on he played softball during the summers.
Bob served on local boards throughout the years, City council, Church council, School board, Woodworth Elevator board & many other committees. He was a member of the Woodworth Lutheran Church for all of his 90 years and a member of the Woodworth American Legion Rice Deede Post #205 for 65 years. As time went on Bob enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and just recently his great grandson play basketball. He loved playing pinochle & looked forward to it every Saturday as he joined his "Pinochle Family" in Carrington. It was a pleasure as well for him to play an occasional game with his Woodworth friends.
Long after he retired from farming, his love for the land remained with him. His garden became the piece of ground that he watched and cared for though he never tired of taking a drive to check the crops. It was a way of life that defined a large part of all of his life, to the very end.
Bob was a blessing to many in his 90 years. His sense of humor, wit and wisdom were gifts for all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his four children, Candyce Wick, Woodworth, ND, Jodi Cook (Travis Lies), Summerville, SC, Rodney Cook, Woodworth, ND, Laurie (Daniel) Stewart, Grangeville, ID; 10 Grandchildren, 7 Great-Grandchildren; a sister, Victoria Brown; brothers-in-law Walter Schulz, James (Margie) Marston, Ted Endres; sisters-in-law Patricia Scheidt, Judy (Willis) Branning; many nieces, nephews and a few cousins.
