Robert Donegan

Robert Donegan, 86, Jamestown, ND died at his home in Jamestown on Saturday, November 14, 2009.

Robert Arnold Donegan was born at Plankington, SD on March 27, 1923, the son of James and Marie (Dunn) Donegan. He moved to Edgeley, ND with his family in 1930 where he attended elementary school. They later moved to Jamestown and he graduated from St. Johns Academy High School in 1941. Following his graduation he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad as an Engineer/Fireman until enlisting in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1944. He served with the 4th Marine Division on both Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Bob returned to Jamestown following his discharge in 1946 and continued to work for the N. P. Railroad. He married Audrey Moug at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown on August 26, 1950. They have made Jamestown their home since that time. Bob retired after 43 years in 1984.

Survivors include his wife; 1 son, Kelly (Rebecca), Jamestown, ND; 1 daughter, Jennine Albrecht, Jamestown, ND; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Francis, Jamestown and Victor, Pueblo, CO; and 2 sisters, Patricia McCommon, Jamestown and Percy Gilman, Auburn, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, James and Donald; 3 sisters, Dorothy Donegan, Janice Richards, and Mary Exner; and 1 son-in-law, Tim Albrecht.

Bob was a member of St. James Basilica. He had served as State Legislative Director for the United Transportation Union and Secretary/Treasurer of the North Dakota AFL-CIO from 1964 - 1977 and was the President in 1977. Bob enjoyed his grandchildren, watching hockey and was a very active supporter of both youth hockey and American Legion Baseball in Jamestown.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND.

Vigil Service: Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., both at St. James Basilica.

Visitation: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009 at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
