Robert Falk, 83, Courtenay, ND, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at his home near Courtenay.
Robert James Falk was born January 21, 1924 on the family farm near Courtenay, ND, the son of Frederick and Clara (Wagner) Falk. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Durham Township School. Following his schooling, he worked on the family farm and at the Walter Johnson Farm near Courtenay until entering the United States Army on January 10, 1945. He served during World War II in Okinawa and Japan. Following his discharge on November 23, 1946, he returned to Courtenay and worked on both the family farm and the Walter Johnson Farm. In 1948, he moved to Fargo, ND for a brief time while he attended the Hanson Mechanical Trade School and studied mechanics and welding. He then returned to Courtenay, ND. On October 17, 1955, he married Marna Mae Haakenson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Courtenay, ND and they settled on a farm near Courtenay where they farmed until the present. In the summer of 1978, Robert and his wife became foster care providers and have been for the past 29 years.
Robert was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Courtenay, ND and a current member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon, ND.
Survivors include his wife; 10 children: Marlene (Robin) Hendrickson, Fargo, ND; Allen (Tammy) Falk, Jamestown, ND; Arnold (Debra) Falk, Jamestown, ND; Marna (Jeff) Koenig, Toronto, SD; Lawrence (Carol) Falk, Jamestown, ND; Linda (Bill) Foster, Myrtle Beach, SC; Jacqueline (Al) Gruidl, Mankato, MN; James Falk, Farmington, MN; Daniel (Susan) Falk, Jamestown, ND; Donna Falk, Fargo, ND; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother: Leonard (Marlene) Falk, Long Beach, MS and an adult foster child, Virgil Winnegge, Courtenay, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence; a sister, Arlene; and a granddaughter, Jeannie.
Funeral - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND with Father Steve Meyer officiating
Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 3, 2007 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND
Visitation - 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 3, 2007 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday
Interment - St. Mary's Cemetery, Courtenay, ND
