Robert Paul Moran passed away on August 13th at his home with Nora, his wife of 66 years, and family at his side. Born to Roy and Sarah Moran on April 3, 1931, Robert was raised on their family farm and attended school in Pingree. He was the youngest of eight children. At age 15, his parents took jobs on the west coast during the winter months while he tended to the farm. He also worked for other farmers. In 1951, Robert took over the family farm and was a faithful steward of the land.
In his teens, Robert took notice of a pretty, young basketball player in Pingree. A few years later, he would have the confidence to pursue a date with her, which ultimately resulted in marriage to Nora Mae Manley. They wed January 4, 1951, and lived on the family farm until 2007. They often joked that she was from Roundtop Township (west of Pingree) and he from Grasshopper Hill (east of Pingree). Robert and Nora welcomed six children to their union.
Growing up in the depression, Robert learned perseverance. In 1952 he lost his first grain crops to hail, followed by a few years of heavy drought. His farming operation consisted of grains, sunflowers, corn and livestock. In the 1960’s, he worked road construction for Northern Improvement and at LeFevre Sales.
Robert was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Pingree and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served on Pingree Cemetery and Lion Township boards and was active in community affairs.
Following retirement, Robert and Nora moved to Jamestown in 2007.
Robert is survived by his wife, Nora, son, Donovan, and three daughters, Sandy (Duane) Broschat, Robin (Glenn) Dunwoody, Laurel (Patrick) Spaeth, daughter-in-law, Peggy Moran; 12 grandchildren (Shane, Clinton, Becky, Amber, Jennifer, Kylie, Shyloh, Eugene, Danika, Camden, Eli, Isaac) and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Darrell and DeWayne, his parents, one brother and six sisters.
Memorials may be given to charity of choice.
