Robert J. Pomplun

Robert J. “Bob” Pomplun, 84, Jamestown, ND died Thursday February 10th at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Bob was born January 15, 1927 in Elden Township, Dickey County ND, son of Rudolph and Clara (Noess) Pomplun. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church of Albion Township, Dickey County, ND. He received his education in Albion Township Rural School #2.

Bob enlisted in the US Army in March 1946 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in March 1947. In November 1948 he began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Ellendale, ND. Throughout his career as a telephone lineman he worked near the cities of Bismarck, Dickinson, Jamestown and Valley City before retiring in 1983. He also was a senior citizen bus driver for Hi-Acres Manor for a time.

Bob married Rhoda Grasswick of Valley City in 1961 and had one son, Jeff. On July 28, 1978 he married Loretta Jung in Jamestown, ND where they made their home together until her death in June 2004.

Bob was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Jamestown, the American Legion Post #137 of Ellendale, and the Telephone Pioneers of America and active in the preservation of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery as well. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, Pinochle and Whist, visiting with friends and relatives and watching his two grandchildren grow.

Survivors include one son, Jeff (Tana) Pomplun of Bismarck ND, two grandchildren Pete (age 14) and Caitlin (age 11) of Bismarck, four step-children Bill Jung, Connie Kelley, Tom (Verla) Jung, David Jung, 10 step-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, parents, siblings, nephews, Ramon Pomplun and Jon Moderow, and stepson Phillip Jung.
