Robert Torrey

Robert Torrey, 81, of Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Torrey was born April 10, 1925 in San Diego, CA, the fifth child and second son of Roy L. and Christine (Sonnek) Torrey. The family eventually returned to North Dakota, settling on a farm near Eldridge, ND. Robert attended the Eldridge schools and graduated from high school in 1942. In 1943, he enlisted with the US Navy and after boot camp, was assigned to duty in the Pacific Theater on the APA - USS Rockbridge. Robert was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946. He returned to North Dakota and farmed his grandfather's land and the family farm with his father.

Robert married Marilyn Seekins. They later divorced. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Robert was skilled in repairing mechanical things and fixing almost any objects so they would be useful again. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends, singing and playing his organ and dancing, especially to waltz music.

Robert was a member of the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown and American Legion.

He is survived two sisters, Lorraine Kiernan, Jamestown and Marjorie Lukanitsch, Glendive, MT; one brother, Gene Torrey, Bismarck, ND. He is also survived by a nephews, Robert Michael (Maureen) Kiernan, Fargo, ND, Clifford (Toni) Torrey, Jr., Atascadero, CA, William (Liz) Torrey, San Luis Obispo, CA; nieces, Mary Kay (Woodrow) Flowers, New York City, NY, Barbara (John) Quiggle, Portland, OR (now teaching in Honduras), Paula (Bob) Cyman, Jamul, CA, and Michele (Chris) Hyink, Portland, OR, and several grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; half sisters, Pearl Lusk; brother, Clifford Torrey; and a sister, Eleanor Torrey.

Funeral Mass: 10:00AM, Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Basilica of St. James with Father John McGinnis officiating.

Visitation: Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from 1:00PM to 8:00PM at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Vigil: 7:00PM, Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.
