Roger A. Bertsch

Roger A. Bertsch, 75, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Monday, February 22, 2010 at MeritCare Palliative Care in Fargo, ND.

Roger was born June 5, 1934 in Lake Williams, North Dakota, the son of William and Mary Alice (Hawkins) Bertsch. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school in Kidder County. Roger married Rebbecca Martin in the Petersville Lutheran Church on September 22, 1957. They moved to Jamestown in 1959. Roger worked at the North Dakota State Hospital for 30 years, starting in the late 1950's. Over the years, he also helped neighboring farm families whenever needed.

Roger's greatest pride and joy in his life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved spending time with them. He enjoyed his horses, playing cards, and listening to Johnny Cash music. The last days of his life were spent with his loving family around him reminiscing and telling stories.

Roger is survived by three sons, Dean (Terri) Bertsch, Jamestown, Marlyn (Traci) Bertsch, Jamestown, and Brian (Holly) Bertsch, Montpelier, ND: three daughters, Katherine (Steve) Aldinger, Spiritwood Lake, ND, Lila Bertsch, Fargo, ND, and Brenda (Kevin) Ebel, Jamestown; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; an infant grandchild; and one great-granddaughter.
