Roger Block

March 5, 1957 — October 22, 2019

Roger Lowell Block, 62, passed away peacefully at home on October22, 2019.

On March 5, 1957, Roger was born in Jamestown, ND to Norbert and Elinore (Edwardson) Block. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1975. He went into business with his Dad and founded R.B. Tree Transport Service. Their trees are all over Jamestown and the surrounding areas. After graduation, he worked for JB Shortway Bus Line as a mechanic and bus driver. When the bus line closed, he had various jobs, including Rock of Ages, Country Market, and Aviko. He has been employed at the North Dakota State Hospital for the last 18 years. In 1983 he met Kathy Petersen, and they were married October 26, 1985. They were blessed with two daughters, Rachel and Erika, who were his pride and joy.

He was a family man and his family meant everything to him. He loved his two girls and spent quality time with them. From playing and joking around, to teaching them life lessons, Roger’s goal was for them to be successful in life. He wanted to instill good morals, work ethics, and being compassionate and always willing to help others. His commitment, strength, and support for his family was unbreakable. From creating an at home ice skating rink, building a playhouse, going snowboarding and skiing, and going for bike rides, to teaching how to use power tools, changing a tire, knowing everything under a vehicle’s hood, and how to complete any home renovation; the list is endless. Roger was always working on a project and never quit until it was done. It was with these projects where he loved to teach and explain how things worked.

Roger was very kindhearted and always gave a helping hand to anyone in need. He would drop what he was doing to shovel snow, change a tire, give someone a ride, or help in any way that he could; even to a complete stranger. He took a lot of pride in caring for his home. He would often be found outside watering his beloved lawn at all times of the day.

Roger’s life will always be cherished in the lives of his wife, Kathy (Jamestown, ND), his children, Rachel (Jerimiah) Dockter, Erika (Shane) Brown, and grandson Isaac Dockter, all of Jamestown, ND; mother Elinore Block (Jamestown, ND); four brothers, Gary Block, Jerome Block, Doug (Sheila) Block, and Brian (Tracy) Block, all of Jamestown, ND; four sisters, Linda (Tom) Ray (Jamestown, ND), Marilyn (Shelby) Flaig (Bismarck, ND), Gloria (Ross) Burkhardt (Glendale, AZ), and Sue Johnson (Jamestown, ND); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Norbert Block, mother-in-law Barbara Petersen and brother-in-law John Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Sunday October 27, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND from 3:00pm-7:00pm with Pastor Lucas Holden officiating. Prayer service to follow at 7:00pm. Funeral will be held Monday October 28, 2019 at 2:30pm at St. John’s. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Per Roger’s request, memorials may be sent to St. John’s Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
