Roland Meidinger

Roland E. Meidinger, 93, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.

Mr. Meidinger was born April 15, 1913, at Fredonia, North Dakota, the son of John J and Ameila (Dobler) Meidinger. He attended grade school at Fredonia, ND; high school at Ellendale, ND; attended North Dakota State University; received the B.S. in Economics and Business Administration from the University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA and an honorary degree from Jamestown College in 1976. His occupations included country school teacher, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, First State Bank of Gackle, Buick-Rambler dealer, and R.E. Meidinger Company (real estate and insurance). He was Republican National Committeeman for North Dakota; served 12 years in the North Dakota Senate; and was President Pro Tem; was President of the Greater North Dakota Association; served as president of the North Dakota Board of Higher Education; was a Jamestown College Trustee for 24 years and is a lifetime Honorary Trustee; and he served on many community and state committees. He was selected ""Man of the Year"" by the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce in 1968. Roland was president of Stutsman County State Bank. He also established the Roland E. Meidinger Center for Excellence in Business and two scholarships at Jamestown College.

He was a member of the Rotary, Elks, Mason, Shriners and the Royal Order of Jesters and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

Roland is survived by his wife, Shirley Rolfs Meidinger of Jamestown; one sister, Evangeline Hensen, St. Paul, MN; a son-in-law, Grant Van Horne, Auburn, IN; three grandchildren, ClaraMary (Denny) Winebrenner, Auburn, IN, John (Pam) Van Horne, South Beloit, IL and Charles Van Horne, Auburn, IN and five great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Lehr, daughter, Andrea Van Horne and one sister, Marcella Burrit.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota
