Ronald "Ron" Marsolek

August 21, 1950 — March 13, 2019

Ronald D. Marsolek, 68, Jamestown, ND died March, 13, 2019 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND due to complications of surgery. Ronald was born August 21, 1950 at Lauck’s Birthing Home, Kensal, ND under the care of Dr. Clarence Martin. Ron is the son of Albert and Agatha (Wenzel) Marsolek. He was raised on the family farm near Courtenay and was educated at Courtenay High School.

Ron joined the army in August 1968, and was deployed to Vietnam November 1968. He served with the 9th Infantry as an assistant gunner. Ron was injured January 12, 1969 and spent several months in hospitals before coming home. Ron earned the Purple Heart, National Service Defense Medal, Expert Badge w/Rifle and Machine Gun. He went to work for the US Postal Service in 1970 as a city letter carrier and was promoted to Post Master at Woodworth in 1994. Ron took early retirement from the postal service in 2003. Ron married Gail Malinski August 17, 1978, on their current farmstead and raised two boys Joshua and Jonathan.

Ron was past president of the Stutsman County Wildlife, he was co-founder of the Individuals MC, member of FM Crusaders, Trinity Lutheran Church and Men of Trinity, Circle Cross Saddle Club, Life member of VFW and DAV, Knights of Columbus, past member of Local Letter Carriers Union #967, National Association of Post Masters, and Homer Township supervisor for 9 years and zoning administrator for 12 years.

Ron enjoyed his cribbage games with his buddies, spear fishing, fishing, hunting, metal art, motorcycles, gardening and conservation. His lifelong passion was restoring and flipping GM Classics. He loved calling relatives early in the morning because he was retired, he enjoyed visiting the elderly, telling stories and jokes one after the other. He was instrumental in getting the cousins together for an annual summer get togethers, which originated at Camp Rokiwan then moved to Grand Rapids Memorial Park in later years. Because of him the family cousins have developed a special bond and are sticking together like glue.

Ron and Gail had a very loving and affectionate relationship. They were friends and lovers. That made them strong through all the hardships they endured through their travels through life.

Ron is survived by his wife, Gail and son, Jonathan (Shauna), two sisters Marty (Ralph Benson) Gray, Geraldine (Richard) Christianson, and one brother Allen (Heather Calkins) Marsolek, mother-in-law, Laverne Malinski, three sister-in-law’s, Sheila Foos, Dianne (Bo) Bollen and Pam (Jimmy Ray) Twardy, step-grandchildren Bailey, Mason, and Kayn, and one step great granddaughter Rylee, four nephews, a niece, several aunts and cousins.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, son Joshua A. Marsolek, father-in-law Adam Malinski and paternal and maternal grandparents.

Visitation: Wednesday, March 20, 2019, 3 PM to 5 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND.

Prayer Service: Wednesday, March 20, 2019, 5 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND.

Funeral Service: Monday, May 20, 2019, 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Kristi Weber officiating.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Arrangements are in the care of Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
