Ronald Roy Werner died peacefully at his home under hospice care in Fargo, ND, on May 18, 2017, at the age of 67. Ron was born on February 21, 1950, in Jamestown, ND, son of the late Roy Werner and Mary (Kourajian) Werner. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1968 and during his high school years he won a number of local and state science fair honors. During his junior year, he was invited to present his science fair project at the Jets Engineering Exposition in Grand Forks, ND, and in his senior year, he was awarded the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. Ron was active in band and sports, including football and wrestling. Ron was also very active in Boy Scouts, having earned the Star Scout and Order of the Arrow Badges at Camp Wilderness at an early age.
Ron attended North Dakota State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. In 1981, he graduated from the University of Texas in Dallas with a Master of Science Degree in Chemistry. Following his graduation from UTD, Ron was employed as a chemist for the Texas Research & Development Laboratories in Irving, TX. Ron returned to Fargo, ND, and prior to his retirement was most recently employed at Drayton Enterprises as a quality assurance engineer.
Ron was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Fargo and enjoyed the fellowship of his friends from the church community.
Ron is survived by his mother, Mary Werner, Jamestown, ND, sister Mary R. Werner, Gilmer, TX, sister Carol Werner, Denver, CO, brother James Werner, Spokane, WA, brother Daniel (Cynthia) Werner, Bismarck, ND, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Werner, his paternal grandparents Herbert and Rebecca Werner, maternal grandparents Vahan and Sarah Kourajian and sister-in-law Karla (James) Werner.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Fargo at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, May 24, with a graveside service to be held at Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown at 1:30 PM on Friday, May 26.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 906 1st Ave. So., Fargo, ND. 58102
