Rose Mitzel

Rose (Schatz) Mitzel died Friday evening, February, 16, 2018 Ava Maria Village, Jamestown, ND with her family by her side.

Rose Schatz was born November 28, 1916, in a sod house on the family farm near Zeeland, ND, the daughter of John and Margaret (Seiler) Schatz. Rose enjoyed school, loved to read and write poems. Rose took pleasure in teaching religion school, bringing baked goods to neighbors and St. Joseph Manor where she later became a resident at age 92 years. She was an active member of the Altar Society. In later years, she sewed a quilt for each grandchild for high school graduation and multiple baby blankets. She found enjoyment in gardening and playing cards with family and friends.

Rose married Fred Mitzel on November 22, 1938 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Zeeland, ND. Rose and Fred moved to Edgeley, ND in 1941, and after renting land for 10 years, purchased the family farm southwest of Edgeley. Rose and Fred farmed 52 years together with their family that included operating a grain and dairy farm. They were members of the Transfiguration Catholic Church.

Mitzel (Kathy), Edgeley, ND, Diane Lambert (Edwin), Wellsville, UT, Pamela Anderson (Stuart), Audubon, MN, Patricia Solinger (Mark) Nortonville, ND; 34 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren, Nick, Joe, Nathaniel, Naomi, Lane, Shelby, Shawn, Stewart, Daniel, Emily, Derek, Ashley, Christopher, Tara, Dalton, Shawn, Alida, Nicholas (deceased) Amanda, Michelle, Rebecca, Jacob, Angel (deceased), Mitchell, Josie, Richard, Colton, Rachel, Kyle, Trevor, Morgan, Darian, Taylor, Emily, Ross, Jacob, Celia, Aden, Austin, Asher, Aubrianna, Paxton, Annika, Cora, Alana, Alexander, Adam, Dawson, Emma, Elizabeth, Adaline, Edison, Liam, Ander, Ellie, Natalie, and 3 spring babies due; 7 great great-grandchildren, Wyat, Kara, James, Carson, Gretchen, Kaydence, Nichol; and sibling, John Schatz (Josie) Bismarck ND .

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Fred, her parents, five sisters, Sister Mary Rose, Julia Mathern, Mary Kramer, Christine Meier, Margaret Schatz, Betty Brandner; and brother, Eugene Schatz.

Her children found written in Rose’s handwriting, “My faith has been everything in my life. Thanks to the Lord.”

Mass of Christian Burial : 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND.

Visitation : 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the church.

Rosary: 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the church with a prayer service to follow.

Interment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley.
