Roy L. Hall, Jr., 88, Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2008 after a long illness.
Roy was born at Vashti, ND on March 16, 1920 to Roy and Emma (Norby) Hall. He grew up on the family farm and entered the US Army in April 1942 to serve his country during WWII. He was discharged in December 1945. He married Christine C. Goodman on January 6, 1946. They farmed NE of Woodworth until she died on July 29, 1985. He worked for neighboring farmers and drove school bus for 26 years. He served on the Woodworth ALC Church council, the Gem Cemetery Board and was a past Commander of the Rice-Deede American Legion in Woodworth. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He married Laura Dunwoody on January 25, 1987. They lived on the farm until moving to Jamestown.
Roy is survived by his second wife, Laura, Jamestown; four sisters, Norma Henke, Park Rapids, MN, Rhoda McCarthy, Rio Rancho, NM, Marian Conlin, Sauk Center, MN, and Hazel Weatherly, Jamestown, ND; two brothers, Harlan (Ruth) Hall, Salt Lake City, UT and Gene Hall, Jamestown; four children, Gloria (Nathan) Harr and Kenneth Hall, both of Jamestown, Ray (Rose) Hall, Bismarck, ND and Sheila (Kelvin) Harr, Courtenay, ND; step-children, Glen (Robin) Dunwoody, Jamestown, Vicki (John) McCall, Clinton, MS, Wayne (Janelle) Dunwoody,Pingree, ND and Cindy Berg, Rock Lake, ND; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; 7 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; one brother, Bill; a grandchild, Miranda Harr; daughter-in-law, Judi Hall; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Kay Dunwoody and step son-in-law, Don Berg.
Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the American Lutheran Church, Woodworth, ND, with Candyce Wick officiating.
Visitation: 12:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, North Dakota.
