Ruby Houge, 90, Edgeley, ND, died Sunday, March 18, 2007 at Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes, ND
Ruby Louise Rotenburger was born March 31, 1916 in McLean County, ND, the daughter of Arthur and Kathryn (Rotenburger) Wood. She was raised on the family homestead at Edgeley, ND and attended school in Edgeley, graduating in 1934. After her graduation, she worked on the family farm. On November 4, 1955, she married Alvin Houge and they lived in Edgeley.
Ruby was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a self-taught painter (like her sister Fern) and enjoyed oil painting and reading. She also enjoyed visiting her family who had moved to Seattle, WA in 1947. Visits to Seattle with Lucille Fredenburg, also a graduate of Edgeley High School was one of the many wonderful reunions and heartfelt memories they all shared. Old stories and names evoked from Edgeley and bandied about by Ruby were Dr. Fergeson (not only a wonderful Dr. but a wonderful man as well), Father Long (a dear friend of Ruby's father), and Chief Tom Spotted Wolf (who help bury her brother Norman who died at 6 years old). Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include 1 sister: Shirley Kuhn, Seattle, WA and 2 nephews: Mike Pillar, Lake Stevens, WA and Brian (Susie) Pillar, Helena, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Harley and Norman and 2 sisters, Monica and Fern.
