Rudolph Walz, 97, Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Jamestown and Pettibone, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks.
Rudolph Walz was born to Christian and Christina (Morlock) Walz on May 31, 1915, in Petersville Township, North of Pettibone, ND. He was baptized on August 8, 1915, at Zion Lutheran Church, Petersville, and confirmed his faith on April 13, 1930. He was united in marriage to Katherine Martin on December 10, 1936.
They farmed in the Pettibone area until they retired and moved to Jamestown, and later to Grand Forks. When not farming, he was remodeling their home, building houses in the community, making picture frames, building furniture (he built 56 roll-top desks), and fishing. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and sang in the choir, and served as congregation chairman and elder. He also served on the Pettibone school board. While living in Jamestown he belonged to the Choralaires for about fifteen years. In 1977, Rudolph and Katherine went to Germany to visit their daughter, Marlys, and family. While there they met and stayed with several of their first cousins.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; their three children Verna (Darold) Boettcher, Larry (Lynn) Walz, Horseheads, NY, Marlys Johnson, East Grand Forks, MN; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother Rupert (Joan) Walz; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; and son-in-law, Don Johnson.
