Russell George Leysring, 71, Jamestown, ND died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.
Russ was born October 31, 1941 in Jamestown, the son of George and Lillian (Carlson) Leysring. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1959 and attended ND State School of Science in Wahpeton, earning a degree in auto mechanics. On June 3, 1961 Russ married Shirley Ann Hordetckey at St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown. He worked for the Chevrolet garage as an auto mechanic, then continued on as a diesel mechanic and shop foreman at the Standard Oil terminals. He also worked as a mechanic and a machinist at Western Auto and Car Quest, from where he retired.
Russ was a member of the Eagles, Jamestown Hockey Boosters and the Road Runner Car Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and tinkering. He liked to read and study, always wanting to learn and expand his knowledge. He was a big hockey enthusiast and even drove the hockey bus when his son played. Russ was a wonderful father to all his children. He spent many hours teaching them to be strong individuals. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and making lifelong memories for them.
Russ is survived by his wife, Shirley, Jamestown; four children, Sherry (David) DeLair, Detroit Lakes, MN, Tony (Darcy) Leysring, Fargo, ND, Angie (Jay) Thorsness, Huron, SD and Cindy (Alan) Cooper, Sabin, MN; eight grandchildren, Levi, Taylor, Moriah, Petra, Jeremy, Kelsey, Cody and Nickolas; and one great-grandson, Lance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leslie Leysring and one sister, Marilyn Leysring.
