Ruth Soma

Ruth Vivian (Van Winkle) Soma, 88, of Jamestown, died on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Eventide Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Ruth may be gone and her family and friends will tell you she is in a better place, but forever she will be in our hearts and will be missed and thought of always.

Ruth was born on 1.11.1929 to Zelda (Page) and Henry Van Winkle in Courtney, ND. She married Johan Edward Soma on August 14, 1948. Through their union, they were blessed with seven children. Cheryl (Kenneth) Schaffer, LaMoure, ND, John (Vickie), Jamestown, ND, Jerry (Angie), Litchville, ND, Brenda (Carl) Schneider, Cooperstown, ND, Keith, Litchville, ND, Sharla (Marvin) Priewe and Virginia Sarbaum, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Ruth cherished many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Ruth has two sisters, Judy (Gordon) Stewart, Sandie (Larry) Laney and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who never forgot a birthday. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, going to church, playing cards, baking buns and Christmas goodies, watching Christmas movies and listening to Christian music.

Ruth was welcomed home by her husband, a son, a daughter, a grandson, sons-in-law, brothers, and parents.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the 1st church of the Nazarene in Jamestown with pastor Matt Zimmer officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Inurnment: Glenfield Cemetery, Glenfield, ND.
