S. G. ?Sam? Cebula, 86, World War II veteran and recipient of the Silver Star, died peacefully on February 11, 2008 at the Meritcare Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND. Sam, a humble hero to his family and friends, was born on a farm near Buchanan, ND , October 16, 1921 son of Boleslaw and Leokadia Cebula and was baptized at the Church of Sacred Heart, Fried, ND. He attended country school and joined the U. S. Army serving in the South Pacific Theater. He was wounded in the Northern Solomons campaign recuperating in New Zealand where he served as a medic for the remainder of the war. Sam married Beryl Alm on June 11, 1949. They made their home in Wimbledon where Sam worked for Standard Oil and then at Wimbledon Implement in parts and as bookkeeper until his retirement. Sam loved his family, his community, his church, fishing, baseball and gardening. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beryl, two daughters, Natalie Findlay (Bob) of Tacoma, WA, Becky Parker (Jerry) of Ortonville, MN, two sons, Sam (Sheila) of Mankato, MN and Rob (Shannon) of Stevens Point, WI, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ralph, Buchanan, ND and Bob, Jamestown, ND and four sisters, Sue Sorenson, Jamestown, Leona Thomas, Washburn, ND, Marian Wilma and Marge Kourajian, both of Jamestown. Donations preferred to St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, Wimbledon.
Services: 2:00PM, Saturday, February 16, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wimbledon, ND, with Rev. Robert Hill officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 pm-8:00 pm, Friday, February 15, at Eddy Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church. Family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 7:30pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
Burial: Prairie View Cemetery, Wimbledon, ND.
