Selmer ""Sam"" O'Chester Lundgren, 89, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.
Sam was born June 19, 1918 in Adams, ND, the fifth child of John and Josephine (Johnson) Lundgren. He received his elementary education at Fairview and Silvesta School Districts. Sam helped with the farm work until he was drafted on March 17, 1942. He served in the 12th Air Force in France and northern Italy where he completed 50 missions as a tail-gunner on a B-25 Medium Bomber. He was honorably discharged on October 26, 1945 in Santa Ana, CA. In September 1947, Sam married Joyce Anderson and they were blessed with three sons, Lynn, Mark and Steven. From 1947 until 1979, Sam owned and operated Sam's Service and other service stations, car garages, drug store and two motels in Detroit Lakes, MN and Valley City, ND.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND.
Sam is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Jamestown; three sons, Lynn (Kathy) Lundgren, Bismarck, ND, Mark (Judy) Lundgren, Jamestown and Steven Lundgren, Sauk Centre, MN; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two sisters, Ila (Jim) Corcoran, Grand Forks, ND and Donna Jeffers, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Lloyd; four sisters, Ebba, Alma, Mabel and Emma and two half brothers, Willie and Clarence.
Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor Leon Zavadil officiating.
