Sharon Kay Schlenker

January 11, 1945 — October 14, 2007

Sharon Kay Schlenker, 62, Alfred, North Dakota went home to the Lord on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City, North Dakota.

Sharon Kay Gohner was born January 11, 1945 to John and Amelia (Suko) Gohner at Edgeley, North Dakota. The family lived north of Jud on the family farm where Sharon grew up until she was 15. She attended rural school and also Jud Public School. The family moved to Jamestown in 1960, where Sharon attended and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1963. Sharon married the love of her life, Gordon, on June 16, 1963. They made their home and farmed on the Schlenker family farm until her illness in September , when she became a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City where she passed away.

Through the years, Sharon gave a lending hand on the family farm and at various times worked parttime in Jamestown. She had also been consultants for Stanley and Princess House home parties. The last two years, Sharon made and sold elegant jewelry sets which she designed with a special loving touch.

Sharon was an amazing cook and loved to entertain in her home. Her faith and family were important aspects of her life, as well as her love to travel and spend time in Hawaii. Sharon especially loved and enjoyed spending time with her one and only grandchild, Alecia.

She was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day in Alfred and used her gifts and talent of music by playing the organ for many years. Sharon blessed our lives in so many ways, as a wife, she gave true meaning to the words love and commitment. As a mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, her guiding force helped mold us and shape us to who we are today. May her spirit continue to live within us so that we can continue to be the Christian role model that she was to us. Her friendship and all of the lives that she touched in her 62 years on this earth will be a living memorial to her generous spirit. We cherish our memories with her; and we will carry her spirit with us, until we meet again.

Grateful for having shared in Sharon's life are her loving husband of 44 years, Gordon; one daughter, Julie (Rob) Hess; one granddaughter, Alecia Hess, all of Alfred; three sisters, Laverne Yetterboe, Gackle, ND, Delores (Dayton) Schroeder, Alfred, Judy (Dave) Mickelson, Jamestown; two brothers, Jim (Mavis) Gohner, Jud and Paul (Audrey) Gohner, Montpelier, ND and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. There is also a special furry friend, Abigail, who will also miss her.
