Shaun David Glinz

February 11, 1968 — December 2, 2011

Shaun David Glinz, 43, of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND following a 16 year battle with pulmonary hypertension. During his illness Shaun's strength of character was evident; he faced his health problems with courage and a spirit of acceptance. Shaun was born February 11, 1968 in Jamestown, the son of David and Barbara (Tesky) Glinz. He was raised in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School. He began farming at age 18. He attended Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., and Bemidji State College, Bemidji, Minn. before attending Jamestown College where he received a bachelor's degree in personal financial planning. He married the love of his life, Julene Johnson, on July 15, 1995 at Wyoming, Minn. He owned and operated Computer Bitz in Bismarck, ND and later, Buffalo Jacks BBQ Shack in Medora, ND. Shaun and Julene farmed in the Jamestown area. Shaun was a man of many talents with a deep love for life and family. He was a servant of God who willingly shared his time and gifts with God's church. As a youth he was asked to serve on a call committee at Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown. As an adult he served as president of Atonement's church council, cooked for the Alpha program and served on additional call committees. Shaun was an avid swimmer and used this talent to work as a life guard and to earn certification in scuba diving. Shaun was a gourmet cook and hosted many meals. His interest in cooking began early; as an elementary student he would check out cookbooks from the library. He possessed an impressive collection of cookbooks. Shaun loved sharing stories with others from his vast knowledge of history and current events. He was a student of history and interested in traveling. He would research countries and their cultures and use his knowledge to tell stories and create ethnic meals to share with others. He was a natural teacher and a mentor to many. He loved building, repairing and working with computers, and was a huge Star Wars fan. Shaun most recently served the Lord by assisting in the establishment of a home mission congregation affiliated with the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations, becoming a charter member of New Hope Free Lutheran Church in June. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. His departure from this world is a great loss. Shaun is survived by his wife, Julene, Jamestown; three children, Kyler, Conner, and Anish; his parents, David and Barbara, Jamestown; two sisters, Sasha (Tony) Minihan, England, and Marvel (Joel) VanderKooi, and their two children, Kirsten and Hezekiah, Thailand. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Cresta and his grandfather, Arvel Glinz.
