Aldene ""Shelly"" McDonald died January 5, 2005 at Central Dakota Nursing Home, Jamestown, North Dakota.

Aldene Schjeldahl was born February 15, 1916 at the farm home of her parents, Oscar and Hannah (Thorsen) Schjeldahl near Haynes, North Dakota, where she grew to adulthood. She graduated from Haynes High School in 1933 and from Jamestown College in 1937. She married Burt J. McDonald that same year and they lived in Jamestown until 1945 when they moved to Eldridge, ND where they lived continuously, except for 3 years spent in the Livingston, Montana area from 1947 until 1950. The couple had one son, Jack McDonald. Burt McDonald died in 1981 and Shelly continued to live in Eldridge.

Shelly taught school for several years during 30's and 40's. From 1945 until 1957 she was engaged with her husband in the operation of their own business in Eldridge. In 1957 she went to work as a case worker for Stutsman County Social Services and continued there until her retirement in 1981.

After retirement she was occupied largely with volunteer work and in various civic and social organizations. She was a member of the following: St. John's Lutheran Church, Priscilla Altar Guild, VFW Auxilliary, Eagles Auxilliary, ND Mental Health Association, AARP, Happy Homes Homemakers, member of the Senior Citizen Board for 3 years, Central Dakota volunteer, Sons of Norway and NDPEA and ARC.

She is survived by her son, Jack (Yvonne) McDonald, Eldridge, ND, one granddaughter, Melody (Kevin) Yeager of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, one grandson, Jay (Carol) McDonald, Fargo, ND, one great-granddaughter, Amy Aldene McDonald, also of Fargo and one sister-in-law, Laila Schjeldahl, Hettinger, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral Service will be on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Rev. Dennis Ellingsen officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, January 7, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
