Shirley Jean Peerboom was born May 6, 1929 on the family farm in Pierce County, near Anamoose, ND, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Rudnick) Peerboom. She was raised in McHenry County near Anamoose and attended school in Anamoose, graduating from Anamoose High School in 1947. She attended Fargo Business College from 1947-1948 and then worked for Red Owl Stores and the Secretary Shop, both in Fargo, ND, and later for Northrup-King in Moorhead, MN. On April 19, 1950, she married Orlen Bjorland at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose, ND. They lived in Fargo, ND until 1952 when they move to Dilworth, MN, where Shirley worked as the Welcome Wagon Hostess. In 1973, they moved to Jamestown, ND where she worked at the Central Valley Health Unit for 8 years, as a Kelly Girl for 4 years and as the secretary at the The Basilica Of St. James for 5 years. In 1992, they moved to Edgeley, ND where Shirley worked as the secretary for Transfiguration Catholic Church, as a driver for the LaMoure County Transit and for Lisko Funeral Chapel. They moved to Jamestown in 2008.
Shirley was a member of St. James Basilica and St. James Tabernacle Society, and had been an active member of the Edgeley community, serving as president of the Jolly Senior Citizens in Edgeley.
Survivors include her husband, Orlen, Jamestown, ND; 6 children: Ronald Bjorland, Sabin, MN; Marilyn Bjorland, Los Angeles, CA; Richard Bjorland, Anamoose, ND; Sandra (Dave) Farthing, Jamestown, ND; Russell (Diane) Bjorland, Jamestown, ND; Robert (Julie) Bjorland, Harvey, ND; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a brother, Jerome (Dorothy) Peerboom, Anamoose, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.
